Acting Chief Justice - Allahabad High Court (Retd.)
Justice Gupta was born in a respectable Kesarwani Family of Etawa on 15th July 1930.
His father Late Lala Prabhudayal was a religious, successful businessman and used
to respect and support literary activities in Etawa. The early education of Justice
Gupta was held at Etawa in Theosophical School, Etawa; Highschool from Sanatan Dharm
Highschool, Etawa. He completed graduation (B.A.) in 1948 from Ewing Christian College,
Allahabad & L.L.B. from Allahabad University in 1950.
He started his career as lawyer in 1951 from Etawa district court and rose to Senior
Government Advocate at Allahabad High Court. In 1977, he was appointed permanent
Judge of Allahabad High Court by Government of India and retired as acting Chief
Justice on 14/04/1992.
Special Achievements:
He worked as Chairman of Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee of Universities of
Allahabad, Ruhailkhand and Surat (Gujarat). He was nominated for Vice Chancellor
by working Committee of Merath University. His contribution as member of Executive
Committee of Allahabad and Kanpur University are still remembered as praiseworthy.
Dedication to Hindi Services:
During his tenure as Justice of Allahabad High Court (1977 to 1992), he wrote about
four thousand judgments in Hindi. He was "Hindi Gaurav" in 1992 by Hindi Sahitya
Sammelan - an institution of U.P. Government. He was also honored ‘Sahitya Vachaspati’
by Government of U.P. along with Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Later became Prime
Minister of India) and Dr. Chandra Prakash Dwivedi (Chanakya - A famous character
of Chandra Gupta in TV serial) in 1992. He remained Chairman of Hindi Sahitya Sammelan,
UP (1993-1997).
He was awarded MAHAMANA MADAN MOHAN MALVIYA AWARDEin 1999 by Shri Surajbhan, Governer-Uttar
Pradesh. TULASI AWARD in Dec-200 by Governer of Uttar Pradesh shri Vishnukant Shastri.
Mahatma Gandhi Vidyapeeth (A deemed university) awarded him 'Doctor of Law'
in Feb-2003 for Honor’s cause in recognition of his Legal and Judicial Services.
At present he is an executive member of Rajarishi P.D. Tandon Open University, UP.
Establishment of Etawa ‘HINDI SEWA NIDHI’:
The cash award received by him in SAHITYA VACHASPATI was completely donated in establishing
HINDI SEWA NIDHI in 1992. The NIDHI encourages new talent in Hindi literature and
also honors the renowned Hindi writers in the field of literature, administration,
science, public services in media etc. The SARASWAT SAMMELAN organized every year
at Etawa is very popular. This year (2007) personality like Shri Narendra Kohli
(Writer), Shri Jasdev Singh (The famous radio/TV commentator), Padam Shri Dr. N.P.
Gupta, (Urologist in AIIMS, New Delhi) along with many upcoming writers were honored.
Recent Honor:
In July 2007, justice Gupta was honored by 8th VISWA HINDI SAMMELAN held in America.
Many dignitaries from different countries were also honored for their
services for Hindi.
